ELEVATING PLATFORMS FOR LIVE LINE WORK: TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS FOR MAXIMUM SAFETY

ELEVATING PLATFORMS FOR LIVE LINE WORK: TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS FOR MAXIMUM SAFETY

Specific Requirements for Live Line Work

Working on active electrical lines imposes strict obligations:

  • Maintenance of electrical insulation between the operator and any conductive source.
  • Insulated platforms allow operators to work as close as possible to live components whilst ensuring worker safety.
  • Capacity to dissipate parasitic electrical charges that might accumulate on the equipment.

Our platforms are developed to meet these critical requirements, with dedicated and certified technical architecture.

Architecture of a Platform for Live Line Work

  1. Highly Insulating Materials The elevating arm is manufactured from glass fibre reinforced polyester resin (GRP). This material offers high mechanical resistance whilst presenting excellent dielectric insulation properties, validated by high voltage resistance tests. Our platforms are validated by rigorous tests reaching 100kV.
  2. Insulated Basket and Operator Protection The work basket is moulded from insulating composites, often equipped with an additional interior liner to guarantee double insulation. The liner also undergoes a 50kV test. Arc protection plates can be integrated to limit thermal effects in case of electrical flash.
  3. Earthing Devices For non-insulated metal parts (e.g. chassis, stabilisers), we integrate controlled earthing circuits to avoid accidental potential differences.
  4. Control Systems Hydraulic controls are separated from electrical circuits by internal insulators. In case of circuit rupture or arc initiation, insulation continuity is maintained.

Technical Standards and Certifications

Our platforms for live line work are designed and tested in accordance with the strictest international standards:

  • BS EN 61057 Live working – Insulating aerial devices for mounting on a chassis
  • ANSI A92.2 For Vehicle-Mounted Elevating And Rotating Aerial Devices (American standard for insulated platforms)

Operational Performance: Efficiency in Service of Safety

The integration of lightweight, high-resistance materials allows our platforms to maintain optimal load capacity whilst respecting the weight constraints of carrier vehicles. Operational advantages:

  • Adapted working height according to models whilst maintaining compact dimensions (from 12 to 18 m).
  • 360° basket rotation for precise interventions.
  • Redundant controls (backup) in the cabin and on the ground to secure operations in case of failure.
  • Automatic arm adjustment systems to limit accidental displacement near live lines.
